Khumi Children’s Home

Khumi Children's Home

As part of corporate social responsibility, SCAW Limited has made steps towards contributing to the community by supporting Khumi Children’s Home for vulnerable girls in Kalulushi. The girls’ home currently supports about 28 vulnerable children of ages ranging from 2 years to 18 years.
SCAW Limited has invested in making the girls home habitable and safe for the children. The company has renovated the orphanage as follows:
• Installation of utility electricity. The electricity has enabled the borehole to function efficiently and consistently and hence has facilitated water reticulation in the house for the bathroom, toilets and kitchen. This has also enabled the discontinuation/closure of the pit latrine which had posed a health risk to the children.
• The toilets, bathrooms and kitchen have been equipped with the necessary fixtures.
• Furnishing of the children’s house such as provision of mattresses, TV, cooker, etc.
• Erection of a security wall fence.
The company also sponsors the children’s education by paying school fees, providing school uniforms and learning materials, and facilitating extra tuition.
A cross section representing all Scaw employees visits the home every after a month to cook, donate food and clothing, and to interact with the children.
The vision of SCAW Limited for the children is to ensure that they live in a safe and conducive environment and that their basic educational needs are met. SCAW Limited views education as the key to securing the children’s future.
